November 22, 2011 in Stand Up Comedy
Yes folks, every Tuesday night pro and amateur comedians will descend on THE PORT in Toronto and sign up to tell jokes. It’s a free show that’s sure be a great time for all. I’m saying it’s a real open mic as most rooms in Toronto will use that term but actually book comics weeks, sometimes months in advance. I still love all those rooms, never hated any room I’ve done in this city and anyone running one knows the challenges it brings to keep a room going. You need to do whatever works. But at the Port I now want it to be on a sign up open mic basis only. I did this back at Drool in Kensington, but last week I allowed Blair Streeter to run the room and he put everyone on, I liked the sound of it and it reminded me of all the fun times I’ve had at rooms like that. We’ll cap the night though if tons of comics show up, so we don’t end up there till 3am. Obviously if an “established comic” stumbles in halfway through the show we will put them up too if possible, as we all learn from these guys. So if your huge, come by. But hey, Whomever shows up in time, gets a spot if there are any left. Come see comics work on new jokes, try old ones and just not make jokes at all sometimes. Hosted by myself (Jon Hyatt) there will be a 10:30pm musical guest provided by The Harlton Empire that will split the night up from the early show to the late show that starts at 11pm. A Toronto open mic comedy night should give you a great Tuesday night! 1179 Dundas Street West at Ossington. Sign up at 8:30pm, show at 9pm. Late show at 11pm.
